Last month’s online auction featuring Kenneth L. “Tug” Wilson’s collection of Olympic memorabilia netted $39,901 for his family estate, according to RR Auctions of Ohio.
Of that total, Wilson’s 1956 Olympic Badge garnered $16,637.50. Wilson, who served as president of the U.S. Olympic Committee from 1953 to 1965 attended the Olympics held that year in Melbourne, Australia.
Wilson has the second longest tenure at USOC and governed over six U.S. Olympic teams — Cortina, Melbourne/Stockholm, Squaw Valley, California, Rome, Innsbruck and Tokyo during his tenure.
Wilson’s collection of medals, badges, patches, pins, programs, tickets, photos, were auctioned in January. The collection also included his original passport and participation ID badge from the 1920 Olympics.
